Black Canary

Debuting in 1947, the Black Canary displaced Johnny Thunder from his regular back-up features in Flash Comics. The only child of a long line of police officers, young Dinah was defied her chance to become a police officer. In honor of her father's wishes, Dinah Drake fashioned a costumed identity to eradicate crime as the Black Canary. Canary had several solo adventures and often teamed with Johnny Thunder. When Thunder's powers became unreliable, Black Canary took his place on the Justice Society of America.
Creation:

Dinah Drake, the first Black Canary, was created by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Carmine Infantino. Her daughter, Dinah Laurel Lance, the second Black Canary, was created by Dick Dillin and Dennis O'Neil.

Powers & Abilities:

Black Canary possesses a unique metahuman ability dubbed the "Canary Cry," an ultrasonic scream powerful enough to shatter objects, disorient opponents and as more recently revealed, even shatter skulls and liquefy bones. She is also an expert martial artist, especially in Judo and boxing, and is considered one of the seven best fighters in the DC Universe. In post-Flashpoint continuity, it is revealed she is able to use her Canary Cry to fly.

Post-Flashpoint, Black Canary wears fishnet stockings of technology which she describes to Condor as a kevlar-carbon-fiber-polymer mesh with self-repairing nanobots.
