Origin:
Cliff Secord was a hotshot stunt pilot who one day discovered a mysterious package in his plane. When unwrapping the package, he discovers a mysterious jetpack. Using this jetpack, Cliff Secord fights crime as the Rocketeer.
The Rocketeer's standard sidearm is a Mauser C96.
If you ask a random group of people which super power they'd most like to have, odds are “flight” will crop up more than any other. The Rocketeer taps into that desire to fly. This pulp-influenced, WWII-era hero uses his advanced jetpack to battle Nazis and seek adventure in the skies. Though cut short by creator Dave Stevens' untimely death, the saga of The Rocketeer remains a compelling one. And now a new anthology from IDW Publishing will ensure that a new generation of readers will be thrilled by his exploits.
Creation:
Rocketeer was created by Dave Stevens, debuting in Starslayer #2.
In May of 2011, IDW began publishing Rocketeer Adventures. Each issue has a painted cover by Alex Ross. A large number of comic creators have worked on the series as each issue switches to different creators. Kurt Busiek, John Cassaday, Mike Allred, Michael Kaluta, Mike Mignola, Dave Stewart and Jim Silke are among creators working on the series.

Film:
A full length feature film was produced by Walt Disney Pictures in 1991. The film was directed by Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger). Billy Campbell was cast in the main role of Cliff Secord. Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, Timothy Dalton and Terry O'Quinn were also cast in roles. Plans for a sequel diminished due to poor box office results. The soundtrack was composed by James Horner which received positive reviews.
